¹ú²ú×ÔÅÄ

University of North Georgia (¹ú²ú×ÔÅÄ) senior Christopher "Kalub" Anderson of Villa Rica, Georgia, was recognized Feb. 13 by the Georgia Board of Regents for his outstanding academic achievements at the ¹ú²ú×ÔÅÄ Academic Recognition Day.

The nomination process states the student selected should represent outstanding scholastic achievement, a high GPA and be a Georgia resident. It is an honor reserved each year for only one student at ¹ú²ú×ÔÅÄ.

Anderson, 21, who plans to graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in Spanish and a minor in Russian, does not consider himself worthy of such an honor.

"I don’t consider myself a bright or distinguished student by any means," Anderson said. "I have done nothing special to earn this recognition except persistently work hard in every class. I've worked a near full-time job while taking difficult classes and difficult languages, so I'm thankful and humbled by the opportunity."

Dr. Elizabeth Combier, department head of Spanish at ¹ú²ú×ÔÅÄ, nominated Anderson for the award.

"Kalub is an excellent scholar, always sits in the front row and I would say he's as eager to learn today as he was when he first set foot on campus," Combier said. "He tests himself to see how good of a student he can be, and I relish that in a student. It's very gratifying as a professor and teacher to have a student of Kalub's character in my class."
