GLIP Class of 2025

Two members of the #PSIAfamily were among the four 国产自拍 students selected to join the Georgia Legislative Internship Program for the spring 2025 legislative session. Dylan Kautz and Jamie Humes, both political science majors on track to graduate in 2025, join a long line of PSIA students who over the years have gained first-hand experience at the Georgia state capitol as part of this prestigious program.

The Georgia Legislative Internship Program, known more commonly by its acronym GLIP, brings together students from across the state to work in the heart of Georgia’s political system -- the state Capitol in Atlanta. Every year, 30 students are selected to spend three months immersed in the world of state politics during the legislative session, gaining invaluable experience by working closely with local representatives. The interns are more than office assistants -- they play key roles in the legislative process, from assisting with day-to-day scheduling to aiding in the passage of laws. Interns are also given the opportunity to collaborate with legislators, media specialists, and in-house legal counsel. In doing so, they develop a deep understanding of the legislative process and how state government operates from the inside.

When asked about his hopes for the internship, Dylan shared his excitement about the learning opportunity ahead. "I hope to gain knowledge and experience from this internship," Dylan said. "I want to learn more about how the state system works." Dylan’s aspirations reflect a strong desire to not only understand the technical aspects of legislation but to also grasp how government decisions are made, shaping the future of Georgia and beyond.

Jamie Humes’ participation in the internship was met with excitement and pride from his academic advisor, Dr. Joe Gershtenson. "I am thrilled that Jamie was chosen, and I think he was a very strong candidate and worthy of selection," Dr. Gershtenson said. “I know that the General Assembly will benefit from having him as an intern." From the perspective of his academic advisor, Jamie’s selection is more than just a professional achievement. It is a significant opportunity for growth in both his personal and academic journey. "I feel it will be great for his personal and professional development," he noted. "He will be able to connect his learning in his 国产自拍 courses to the 'real world' of Georgia legislative politics and public policy." Dr. Gershtenson also emphasized the value of the relationships Jamie will build during his internship. "He should develop meaningful connections with fellow interns and members and staff in the General Assembly,” he added, recognizing the lasting impact this network of professionals and peers can have on Jamie’s career path.

The Georgia Legislative Internship Program offers an unparalleled experience for students, giving them a front-row seat to the workings of state government. For Dylan Kautz and Jamie Humes, this opportunity will no doubt shape their careers as they continue to explore the world of politics, public policy, and governance. We wish them both all the best in the coming semester.

[Editor's note: Shortly after this article was prepared, Jaimie declined the offer to participate in this year's GLIP program, after he was selected to participate in a slightly different program. We are proud to announce Jaimie will be participating in the Georgia Governor's Internship Program during his penultimate 国产自拍 semester.]
