  • Open Up on Open Access Scholarship

    February 20 (Thursday)
    12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

Open access publishing has been shown to increase citations, accessibility, and the overall discoverability of scholarly work. As more scholars and institutions recognize its benefits, the push for open access in academic publishing—especially within university presses—continues to grow. • Friday Writing Session: Framing a Literature Review

    February 21 (Friday)
    Noon - 1:00 p.m.

Editors and reviewers often outright reject submissions because of “fit.” What does that mean and how do you make sure your submission “fits”? This term often points to a writer struggling to situate their work properly. Before writers get to what they want to say, writers need to ground their work in what others have said. In this Friday Writing Session, we will talk literature reviews: how to brainstorm them, draft them, refine them, and where to locate them in your writing. By looking at specific examples from a variety of disciplines, we will leave with a clearer sense of what you might need to accomplish to land an acceptance!

  • Open Up on Open Educational Resources (OER)

    February 27 (Thursday)
    12:30 - 1:30 p.m.

The positive impact of open educational resources on student success is well-supported by research, and institutions are beginning to recognize OER in promotion and tenure reviews. However, many academics may not be fully aware of how to strategically use OER to benefit both their students and their own professional growth. This workshop will cover what OER are, how to identify (including on Banner) OER for various courses, and how incorporating OER can enhance student engagement, retention, and faculty recognition in promotion and tenure reviews (PNTRs) and faculty activity reports (FARs).
