In-State Tuition Eligibility

To be eligible for In-State Tuition, a student must be verified to be lawfully present in the U.S. Students must have moved to Georgia for reasons other than attending a post-secondary educational institution.

The requirements for in-state classification are based on whether a student is independent or dependent.

Deadlines

Completed In-State Petitions and Out-of-State Waivers must be submitted by the below deadlines. Applications submitted after these deadlines will be considered for the following semester.

  • Fall: August 1
  • Spring: December 10
  • Summer: May 1

Submissions

New students entering their first semester can submit their documents to admissions-residency@ung.edu or reach out to Undergraduate Admissions for physical dropoffs.

Current students can submit their documents to residency@ung.edu or in person at the Registrar’s Office.

Petition for In-State Tuition

If you feel that you have been incorrectly classified as an out-of-state student, you may submit a to be reviewed by the Tuition Classification Committee. Evidence of domicile must be provided. 

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy, Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 require higher education institutions to provide an that contain crime statistics and fire statistics for the three most recently completed calendar years, institutional policies or procedures for reporting crimes and current policies concerning the security of, and access to, campus facilities and residencies, as well as security considerations in the maintenance of campus facilities.
